Seven ways people make extra money, and by the end of this video, you'll know exactly how each one works, step by step. Every step comes from the platform's own help page, and every number from official data. Let's open the doors, one by one.
Way 1: Sell things you no longer use
Number one: sell things you no longer use. It can be quick to start, because what you sell is already at home. On eBay, you register and verify your account, then create a listing: clear, accurate photos, a description, and a format, auction or fixed price. Then you set the price and the shipping, or local pickup, and choose who pays for shipping.
When it sells, you ship it, or hand it over for local pickup, and add tracking when it applies. People do this a lot: in the European Union, almost one in four people aged sixteen to seventy-four sold goods or services online in twenty twenty-five. That counts people who sold something, not how much they earned.
Way 2: Freelance a skill online
Number two: freelance a skill online, like design, writing, translation or video editing. On Fiverr, you switch to selling, complete your profile, and create a Gig: a title, a category, a price or packages, and a delivery time. You add a description, the requirements you need from the client, and at least one image. Fiverr reviews the Gig before it goes live.
When an order comes in, you do the work and deliver it through the order page. The World Bank estimated 154 million registered online gig workers worldwide in twenty twenty-three. Registered doesn't always mean active, but it shows how big this market already is. Quick favor: if step-by-step guides like this help you, subscribe.

Way 3: Teach online
Number three: teach online. If you know a language or a school subject, there are platforms built for this. On Preply, you click Become a tutor, fill in an eight-section application, and record a short intro video. Preply's team reviews the application within five business days.
Then you set your availability and time zone in the calendar. Once your profile is visible, students can find you and book lessons, which happen in Preply's online classroom.
Way 4: Rent out a room or a place
Number four: rent out a spare room, or a whole place. First, check the hosting rules where you live, because they change from place to place. Then you create the listing on Airbnb: the type of place, how many guests it fits, photos, a title and a description. You set your price, availability and house rules, publish, and verify your identity, and the listing goes live for bookings.
In the United States, the Federal Reserve found that 2% of adults offered a short-term rental in the month before its twenty twenty-four survey.
Way 5: Make videos
Number five is probably on your screen right now: making videos. You create a YouTube channel and post original videos. To earn from ads, a channel joins the YouTube Partner Program. Today, where the program is available, that takes 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 public watch hours in the last twelve months, or 10 million Shorts views in ninety days.
Then you apply in YouTube Studio, accept the terms, link an AdSense account, and wait for the review, which typically takes about a month. One heads-up: YouTube updates the program on February first, twenty twenty-seven, so check the official page for the rules at that time. In August twenty twenty-six, YouTube said more than 3 million creators were in the program.
Way 6: Deliveries and rides
Number six: deliveries and rides through an app. With Uber, you first check the requirements for your city, because they vary by region. In the United States, for example, you sign up with your details, then upload your license, registration, insurance and a profile photo. Uber runs an online screening of your driving record and criminal history, and once you meet the requirements, you log in to the app and start.
In Brazil's official estimates for late twenty twenty-five, 87.7% of people doing app work as a second job said the main reason was to supplement their income.
Way 7: Sell what you make
Number seven: sell what you make, handmade items, or digital files you designed, like planners or printables. On Etsy, you first check that Etsy Payments is available in your country, then set up your shop. You add your first listing before the shop opens: photos, a description and a price. For physical items, you set processing times and shipping.
For digital files, you upload up to five files, and each buyer downloads them right after paying.
Recap
So, seven doors: sell what you don't use, freelance a skill, teach online, rent a room, make videos, deliver with an app, or sell what you make. Each one starts with a profile, a listing or an application, and the rules where you live can change the details. Which door would you open first? Tell me the number in the comments.
Sources and notes
Selling things you no longer use can be quick to start, because what you sell is already at home, and it opens this list of seven ways people make extra money, each with steps from the platform's own help page, checked on October 18, 2026. Availability and rules vary by country and platform, so check the platform's page and your local rules. The figures carry their own limits: online selling measures selling, not earnings; registered gig workers are not the same as active ones; one survey covers one country's adults in the previous month; one estimate is experimental; and the video count is the company's own disclosure.
