Intro

Two video sites: one pays out from $10, the other from 200. Ten steps show you how to sell video edits and get your first payout. The easiest step is number two, and the last shows when each site pays.

1. YAY Images puts half its direct net revenue into a contributors' pool

Number ten: YAY Images puts half its direct net revenue into a contributors' pool. Through its partners, that share is 25%. Storyblocks shares part of its subscription revenue by how often your clips get downloaded. Videobolt pays authors a share of every sale, with no rate on its pages.

Its buyers never get your project file, only a finished video made from it. By our count, a partner sale feeds the pool at half the direct rate. Next, the software.

2. Storyblocks takes templates from After Effects

Number nine: Storyblocks takes templates from After Effects, Premiere Pro, Apple Motion or DaVinci Resolve. Its Premiere Pro templates can't use third-party plugins, though you can pre-render the effects. Videobolt works only with After Effects projects. By our count, that's four programs on one site and one on the other.

If you want more practical income guides every week, subscribe so you don't miss the next one. Next, joining.

3. Videobolt reviews a few video examples of your work

Number eight: Videobolt reviews a few video examples of your work, and starting there is free. Storyblocks asks for links to your best work, then checks quality and what its members want. YAY Images opens with an account and a password of at least eight characters. It may ask for identity, tax and payment information.

By our count, Storyblocks' first form has six text fields and one content choice. Next, the first item.

4. Storyblocks takes HD up to eight K

Number seven: Storyblocks takes HD up to eight K, in horizontal or vertical frames. Footage runs up to three minutes, and animations or templates up to five. Files can weigh up to four gigabytes in HD, six in four K, and two for templates. By our count, a three-minute clip at 50,000 kilobits a second, the minimum for one codec, is about 1.1 gigabytes.

Next, the rights.

5. Everything you send has to be fully yours

Number six: everything you send has to be fully yours, with complete rights to every part. Music, artwork or video you made yourself can go into a template. Anyone you can identify needs a model release, and a trademark or private building a property release. Storyblocks doesn't accept AI-generated content right now.

By our count, that's two kinds of release to have ready before a file goes up. We're halfway: five steps done, five to go. Next, uploading.

6. Storyblocks' web uploader takes up to a hundred files at a time

Number five: Storyblocks' web uploader takes up to a hundred files at a time. Titles aim for sixty-five characters and should read like a sentence. Each file needs at least six keywords, and fifteen to thirty are recommended. YAY Images takes uploads by FTP or a cloud storage bucket.

By our count, 5,000 items at a hundred a time would be fifty batches. Next, the review.

7. Videobolt usually takes about seven days to approve or reject a template

Number four: Videobolt usually takes about seven days to approve or reject a template. Its reviewers are motion designers, and after a rejection you can chat with its senior designers and try again. Storyblocks reviews an application in a few days, sometimes a few weeks or more. Seven apps and sites that pay you to edit videos are in our earlier video, linked on screen.

At Storyblocks, files that miss the technical specs are rejected automatically. By our count, Storyblocks lists fourteen rejection reasons for footage and eleven for templates. Next, the license.

8. Storyblocks' video licenses are non-exclusive

Number three: Storyblocks' video licenses are non-exclusive, so you can keep selling the same clips elsewhere. You can remove content any time, with thirty days' notice. Videobolt asks you to keep each template on offer for at least two years. By our count, that's twenty-four months for every template.

In one breath: know the pay, pick the software, join, follow the specs, clear the rights, upload, and pass the review. Next, getting found.

9. On Storyblocks, the title is what customers see, so it should describe the clip accurately

Number two: on Storyblocks, the title is what customers see, so it should describe the clip accurately. It regularly flags in-demand content, based on customer needs and downloads. By our count, thirty recommended keywords use less than a third of the hundred allowed. Before number one, a guess: what's the smallest balance one of these sites will pay out?

10. Storyblocks pays on the fifteenth of each month

Number one: Storyblocks pays on the fifteenth of each month, for the month before. With Payoneer there's no fee, and the minimum payout is $10. PayPal and direct deposit cost $1 per payout. By our count, a ten-dollar balance by PayPal leaves nine, and by Payoneer all ten.

Videobolt wires on the fifteenth, once your sales pass $200. Storyblocks' terms ask you to be over eighteen. So, ten steps, from knowing the pay to getting paid, with three sites as examples. Storyblocks pays from a shared pool, Videobolt pays a share of each sale, and YAY Images splits net revenue.

One small step today: export one short clip and check it against these specs. Which of the three fits your editing best? Tell us in the comments. Your next step is in the video on screen now: how to start a business, from market research to funding.

Selling the videos you edit, in ten steps: knowing the pay, the software, joining, the specs, the rights, uploading and describing, the review, the license, getting found and getting paid, with Storyblocks, Videobolt and YAY Images as examples, all read on each platform's own pages on October 29, 2026, with one count of our own per step.
