10. A hostel night

One penthouse's published rate tops $114,000 a night. Ten hotel levels, from $16, and what each one gets. Number ten: a hostel night. One hostel chain's own site lists one of its hostels from $16 a night.

The hostel has shared dorms with lockers, and private rooms. Wireless internet is free, and the front desk is open twenty-four hours. Guests share a fully equipped kitchen. There is also a pool, a bar and luggage storage.

Laundry costs extra, and breakfast is not included. The chain organizes activities and events so travelers can meet. At this level, the stay is social, built around shared spaces. By our count, thirty nights at that starting rate come to $480 before taxes.

Sixteen times thirty is 480. That is a starting rate, and hostel rates differ by place. If this helps, subscribe: every rate in this video comes from official pages and a company report, linked below.

9. Your own hotel room

Number nine: your own hotel room. Tru by Hilton's average nightly rate in twenty twenty-five was $127 and sixty-eight cents. Every stay includes a free hot breakfast, the brand says. Guests mix and match their breakfast at the Top It bar.

At some of its hotels, an automatic pancake maker is part of it. Rooms have rolling desks and oversized windows for natural light. In the lobby, guests can shoot pool or play table football. Snacks, drinks and essentials are sold at a market open around the clock.

Pets are welcome in every Tru hotel. At this level, breakfast comes with the stay. By our count, that average is about eight times level ten's starting rate. 195 divided by sixteen is just under eight.

Hotel rates change by city and by season.

8. A cookie at check-in

Number eight: a cookie at check-in. DoubleTree by Hilton averaged $145 and seventy cents a night in twenty twenty-five. At many of its hotels, guests can get a warm chocolate chip cookie at check-in. An allergy-friendly version is offered too.

Its fitness centers are open twenty-four seven. They have weight machines, ellipticals, stationary bikes and treadmills. The cardio machines come with televisions and personal headsets. Dining ranges from grab-and-go snacks to all-day room service.

Some of its properties have rooftop pools, overwater bungalows or indoor waterparks. Now many stays start with a warm cookie. By our count, level eight's average rate is about $18 a night above level nine's. 215 minus 195 is $18 and two cents.

Room rates and perks differ where you travel.

7. A two-room suite

Number seven: a two-room suite. At Embassy Suites by Hilton, the average night in twenty twenty-five was $184 and thirty-six cents. Every guest gets a two-room suite, the brand says. Each suite has a separate bedroom and living area, with two TVs.

A wet bar holds a sink, a microwave and a mini-fridge. Breakfast is free and made to order each morning, with signature omelets. Every night, a free evening reception serves drinks and light appetizers. Each hotel has dining on site, and room service is an option.

Guests can swim in an indoor or outdoor pool. Its open-air atriums are made for meeting over food and drinks. Now evening drinks come with the room, on top of breakfast. By our count, a week here averages about $1,290.

220 times seven is about 1,290. One hotel's suite rate can differ, since this is a brand average.

6. A flagship hotel

Number six: a flagship hotel. In twenty twenty-five, an average night at Hilton Hotels and Resorts was $193. It is the company's flagship brand, the fact sheet says. Beyond restaurants and bars, the brand lists breakfast and chef-curated grab-and-go markets.

Its hotels center on lobbies, bars and destination restaurants. Award-winning chefs lead some of those restaurants. Many of its hotels add pools, beaches, spas, fitness centers and outdoor recreation. Some have rooftop bars with wide views.

Now the hotel itself is a place to eat, meet and be seen. By our count, the gap to level seven is under $9 a night. 193 minus 220 is $8 and sixty-four cents. Rates follow the destination, and each hotel's extras can differ.

That's halfway: five levels done, from a hostel night up to a flagship hotel. The last five go from luxury brands up to a record penthouse, with the top last.

5. A luxury hotel

Number five: a luxury hotel. Hilton's results put Conrad's average night at $276 and fifty-four cents for twenty twenty-five. It is the largest of the company's luxury brands, the fact sheet says. Its hotels pair bold design with curated contemporary art.

A program offers one-hour, three-hour and five-hour local experiences. They showcase each place's culture, adventure and local character. Staff build experiences around what excites them about the destination. Several of its restaurants hold Michelin stars.

At this level, service is built around the place you are visiting. By our count, Conrad's average is about 1.4 times level six. 330 divided by 193 is about 1.4. The experiences change with each destination, and so does the rate.

4. An iconic luxury hotel

Number four: an iconic luxury hotel. Waldorf Astoria posted an average of $467 and thirty-nine cents a night in twenty twenty-five. Its fact sheet lists the iconic Peacock Alley among the features that shape every property. Beds are made with cotton sateen linens of 400 thread count.

At one of its hotels, guests can choose the scent of their room on arrival. At another, guests of one suite type are driven to the hotel in a luxury car. The brand says its hotels hold refined art collections and the very finest fabrics. It anticipates every detail of a guest's needs, the brand says.

Experiences include spa getaways and, at one more hotel, fly fishing with expert guides. At this level, small details are planned before you ask. By our count, Waldorf Astoria's average is about 1.7 times level five's. 506 divided by 330 is about 1.7.

Rates at landmark hotels differ where you travel.

3. A suite with a rooftop pool

Number three: a suite with a rooftop pool. At a Four Seasons beach resort, the Sabal Suite starts at $25,000 a night. That rate is for two bedrooms, and the five-bedroom version goes up to $40,000. The suite spans two floors and 5,155 square feet.

Its rooftop terrace covers 3,000 square feet, with a circular pool and a hot tub. A wellness room holds a treadmill, an exercise bike and a workout mirror. There is a full residential kitchen, plus a separate service kitchen. Two marble bathrooms each have a deep soaking tub with coastal views.

Works by contemporary artists hang throughout the suite. Guests also get a free pool cabana and a personal suite concierge. At this level, a private pool and a personal concierge come with the stay. By our count, its starting rate is about fifty-three times level four's average.

25,000 divided by 506 is about 53.5. Resort suite rates change by season.

2. A penthouse at the top of a tower

Number two: a penthouse at the top of a tower. A Four Seasons hotel set its penthouse rate at $80,000 a night when it reopened in twenty twenty-four. The hotel calls it a one-of-a-kind accommodation. It crowns the hotel on the fifty-second floor, with four terraces.

It has three-hundred-sixty-degree views over the city. The hotel says its design is bespoke, with globally sourced features. The hotel's rooms start at 500 square feet, and full-floor suites reach 4,300 square feet. In-room dining runs twenty-four hours, with a signature caviar breakfast.

Its concierge team arranges hard-to-get tables and fully customized itineraries. At this level, your bedroom sits at the very top of the building. By our count, it costs about 3.2 times level three's starting rate. 80,000 divided by 25,000 is 3.2.

Penthouse rates differ from hotel to hotel. Before number one, a guess: what does the record penthouse include at no extra charge?

1. The record penthouse

Number one: the record penthouse. Its published rate starts at $114,767 a night. Guinness World Records calls it the most expensive published nightly rate for any hotel room or suite. The suite is the Penthouse at The Mark hotel.

The rate includes taxes, as of April twenty twenty-five. Breakfast is included in that rate. It has five bedrooms and six bathrooms. Its living room doubles as a ballroom, under a twenty-six-foot ceiling.

It also has a private gym, a library and a roof terrace. At the top, one nightly rate covers the whole penthouse, terrace included. By our count, one night here is over 7,000 times level ten's pre-tax starting rate. 114,767 divided by sixteen is about 7,173.

Records change, and top rates differ from hotel to hotel. So, every level: a hostel night, your own room, a welcome cookie, a two-room suite and a flagship hotel. Then two luxury brands, a rooftop pool suite, a tower penthouse and the record. Rates, taxes and fees differ where you travel.

So open the hotels' own pages, and see what they list for your dates. Which level would you book? Tell us the number in the comments. Results vary, and this is information only, not financial advice.
